Overview
Life Science Analytics Cloud (LSAC) is the leading AI-powered clinical analytics platform from Saama that seamlessly integrates clinical trial data, delivering more actionable insights for faster decision making. Saama’s proven suite of cloud-based applications in LSAC offer powerful data aggregation, monitoring, analytics, and collaboration capabilities, so sponsors and CROs can optimize study planning, enrollment, compliance, productivity, and oversight.
This document contains important information on new features and updates for LSAC v3.0.
New Features/Enhancements
This section gives a list of new features and/or updates for each module worked upon or improvised.
Data Quality Management
COM-10: Data Quality (DQ) Compatibility with Postgres
Data Quality Engine effectively supports Raw to USDM data pipelines with Postgres as the underlying database.
COM-11 and COM-17: DQ checks are implemented through the DQ Engine and DQ Adapter as part of data pipelines with DQ flags that mark good and bad records
Data Quality Engine and Data Quality Adapter are designed to support configurable data quality rules per source data system and per client. The DQ Engine is designed to run on top of the ingested source data in the Raw data Layer, parsing through each row and attaching data quality flags when data rules are violated. As part of this execution DQ adapter updates source data records with ‘Success’ or ‘Failed’ DQ flags as per the configured DQ rules for a given source data system.
COM-18: Implementation of DQ checks on USDM data pipeline
Data Quality Engine and the Data Quality Adapter are designed to be optional and configurable. DQ checks can be implemented for Client and Study specific Raw to USDM data pipelines.
COM-20: Gather insights on all DQ checks through a comprehensive dashboard
Data Quality Dashboard enables the User to go through data quality issues that are identified and flagged by the DQ Adapter. The dashboard is designed so that the data quality issues can be effectively analyzed at a high level and it also supports needful drilldown to the record level details.
COM-103 and COM-104: Automated scheduling of the DQ Adapter to carry out DQ checks
DQ Adapter supports data quality checks, on a full load or on an incremental load, when triggered manually or through an automated schedule service. Data Quality Engine and its Adapter are configurable to run on a schedule for data to be reviewed on a daily basis.
Cloud Ready Architecture and Cloud Agnostic Deployment
COM-69: Cloud deployment-ready LSAC application
Deployment of the LSAC platform applications is now supported via Kubernetes Container Orchestration. This helps in automating deployment, scaling, and operations for the legacy LSAC application components as containers across clusters of hosts resulting into a scalable platform.
Kubernetes can run on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), as well as on-premise. This has made the LSAC application deployment-ready for any public cloud (e.g. Google Cloud, AWS) in the future.
COM-108 and COM-414: Monitor workflow management through Airflow
Apache Airflow is a workflow automation and scheduling system that can be used to author and manage data pipelines. In LSAC we have adopted Airflow tool and the legacy application (internal code name Darkroom) now has the capability to schedule jobs on Airflow.
Data pipeline orchestration is now managed through Airflow and as a result data is securely and reliably processed and moved through different stages through Airflow. Apache Airflow makes data pipelines dynamic and workflows testable, maintainable and version-able. History logging and tracking features are strengthened through this Airflow component.
UX and Navigation Improvements
COM-65 and COM-66: Make the switch from Comprehend to Life Science Analytics Cloud
Brand and theming have been aligned with Saama LSAC standards throughout the application.
COM-84: Well-designed navigation saves you time and effort
The left navigation menu has been redesigned to expand into a detailed listing so that the User can achieve clarity on content and reach specific information easily. There are new application shortcuts for Operations Insights, Clinical Insights and RBM directly accessible through the left navigation.
COM-165: Trailing breadcrumbs for better tracking and navigation for the Out-of-box (OOB) Dashboards
A better navigation is implemented through the use of breadcrumbs which show the “Module”, “Focus”, and “Analytics”. This helps the User keep track of what dashboard they are currently looking at and enables the User to better browse through other analytics or switch focus areas without needing to browse back to the Analytics shortcut in the left navigation.
New Operations Insights Dashboards
COM-183: Monitor key metrics that affect the performance of a study
The dashboard enables the User to get a bird’s eye view on key metrics like Milestone performance, Site Activation (number of sites activated) and Enrollment (number of subjects enrolled) for any study of interest in the portfolio.
COM-169 and COM-191: Track performance of all studies and draw a comparative analysis
The dashboard enables the User to draw a comparative analysis between all studies in the portfolio and can also monitor their respective performance against certain key metrics like Upcoming milestone performance, Activation, Enrollment, AE Rate, PD Rate.
Smart Search with DaLIA
COM-118, COM-119, COM-121, and COM-122: Well-trained Virtual Assistant (DaLIA) for a better navigation
Role-based authentication on DaLIA enables it to render relevant searches, favorite questions to the User and thus provides more insights into analytics, specific to the User’s role in the application. The auto-suggest and auto-complete modes are driven to fit in, into the User’s role and its relevance.
Study / client specific data level authorization in LSAC is applicable for DaLIA search function as well. This ensures the search results are strictly confined to the specific studies that the User is authorized to view and access.
COM-120 and COM-163: Follow updates on DaLIA
DaLIA tracks the movement of various clinical trials. The User has access to updated information all the time such as the count of studies/countries/sites against various milestones to assess the performance of a study. Additionally, the User always has access to the updated list of milestone and clinical trials, through queries, that help draw the best analysis at any given time.
COM-128: DaLIA offers well-structured responses and different perspectives for better grasp
Depending on the query entered by the User DaLIA is able to deliver the outcome or the result in a manner that it sees fit (a list or a table) so that data is assimilated well for better analysis.
COM-138, COM-179, COM-180, and COM-181: Filter based results: helps in drawing focus to what matters and is relevant to you
As a User, get insights for a study through a filter-based search powered by DaLIA. User can draw comparisons on various specifics on a study or multiple studies by changing the filter parameters.
